It is very simple – I love to cook!
Ever since I can remember, I was always in the kitchen next to my grandmother, whose cooking wasn’t just good, but fabulous! Everything she would prepare, even the simplest dish, turned out delicious and gave me a wonderful feeling. Spending time with my grandmother when she was cooking gave me a feeling of comfort and peace. I have always associated home cooking with a sense of coziness, security and reassurance that everything will turn out great.
I began cooking independently on the day when my grandmother died. Everyone loved her, and many people came to pay their respects. My mother was unable to do anything, so it was up to me to go to the kitchen. I did not know how to cook, I never tried to memorize grandmother’s recipes, but everything turned out delicious at once, as though I had done it many times before. I cooked for HER, my grandmother Sofia. She would have been very pleased with my accomplishments.
When I have moved to the United States in 1991, I was amazed by abundance of new, unfamiliar products. I began to experiment by trying to combine different products and, in my opinion, it always turned pretty well.
Naturally, I possess a whole library of culinary recipes where I have taken some ideas. Many thanks to “Betty Croker’s” cookbook which was my first cookbook in America; and from which I have learned a lot of interesting and useful information about local products and how to use them. Cooking for me has given me the ability to be creative. My muse can visit me at night, I will think up a new dish, or in the middle of the grocery store I can see fine grapes and think up a salad for it.
So, create, try, and do not be afraid to combine things you think won’t go well together. Also, don’t always follow a recipe very exactly; be adventurous, add your personal touches. If you are missing an ingredient, replace it with something that can work as well or don’t use it at all. This is going to be your dish and it can turn out even better. Yes, read cookbooks or recipes from the Internet; it is an abundance of information.
Good luck in your cooking…… Bon Appétite.
